Widzew Łódź

Widzew Łódź [ vidzɛf wutɕ ] ( officially RTS Widzew Łódź SA) is a Polish football club, which is named after the district of Łódź Widzew.

History

It was founded on November 5, 1910 as TMRF Widzew. The traditional team colors are red and white. The association is a four-time Polish champion and also you could already once each win the Polish Cup and Polish Super Cup. In the season 1982/83 they reached the semi-finals in the European Champions Cup. After graduating in the game year 2002/2003 as the 9th the Polish Championship, one rose in the following year as the last of the table in the second league from. Widzew Łódź, however, has made ​​the chances of promotion to the Ekstraklasa in the season 2005/ 06 as a table first. In January 2008, the club was convicted after a match-fixing scandal to relegation and had to compete in the 2008/ 09 season in the first league, the second highest Polish league. Actually, the club should be relegated to the " second league", in fact the third highest league, because Widzew would also descended on sporting criteria. However, they decided to pit Widzew in the first league.

Current coach is Radoslaw Mroczkowski. Since the 2008/ 09 season, the club is privately owned by a Polish businessman. Since Widzew graduated as a table first in the same season, it was decided on 25 June 2009 by the referee sports court whether Widzew be allowed to compete in the 2009/10 season in the Ekstraklasa or yet to stay another season in the first league. The Polish Association canceled the sports rise and gave the club a license. 2009/10 repeated Widzew the championship and reached the rise in the Ekstraklasa.

Stadium

The team wears their home games at the stadium built in 1930 Widzewa ( Widzew stadium). It was built in self-work of all the then members of the club and now offers 10,500 spectators (excluding seats). It also has a strong 1500 lux floodlights. A new building or a renovation is not yet in sight, as the city refused funding.
