Wielfresen until the end of 2014 a municipality with 573 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Germany in Styria. As part of the Styrian community structure reform, it is merged in 2015 with the communities Wies, Wernersdorf and Limberg bei Wies, the new community will continue the name Wies. This is based on the Styrian community structure reform law - StGsrG.

Geography
Wielfresen is at the southeastern slope of the Kor at an altitude from 400 to 2000 meters. The place is a scattered settlement with farms into over 1,000 meters above sea level. The community will have drained through the White Sulm and the numerous tributaries, the excellent water quality. Default traffic Wielfresen is accessed by the road L 652.

Geology
The municipality is located in a patio and steps area with steep flanks and gorge-like erosion cuts. Are predominant crystalline schists, gneisses and mica schists with intercalated eclogite - rock bodies and quartz veins. The area is included in the Koralm Crystal Trail.
Climate
The climate in the community is shielded by the towering west Koralpe by oceanic weather. The municipality is one of the weakest wind in Austria, but has large amounts of precipitation in the height range. The annual average temperature in winter is at 1 degree in summer at 17 degrees. In over 1,000 meters above sea level, the area is largely free of fog.
History
In the 6th century, the area was inhabited Slavic. With the influence of the dominion of Swan Mountain to 1000 used a Bavarian colonization and Christianization.
The first known mention of " Vrezen " and " Wiell " is documented in the Salzburg Chamber book of 1430, but already in 1236 the " perg Wroll " is mentioned in a Belehnungsurkunde. In the offices Fresen and Wiel, there were at times over one hundred hides. Today, there are nearly fifty yards.
Until 1849 the area of the rule of swan mountain was associated with the Lords of Ptuj, the Spang Steinem, the Gallern, the car salvors, the Count of Saurau and the Prince of Liechtenstein. Since 1849, the KG sub Fresen, Wiel -St. Anna and Wiel -St. Oswald joined the local church Wielfresen.
The elementary school in the district of St. Catherine, who oversaw 1878 65 school children, was closed in 2004. Your Grade II listed building has been renovated and opened on December 4, 2011 as the communication center of the municipality Wielfresen. The building was renovated in a new clay roof, windows and other wooden parts were renovated and a gable formwork made of larch wood attached.

- Neubauer Chapel: This chapel was built in 1840 and renovated in 2010. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

- Eklogitformation " hollow rock ", applies throughout Austria as the most beautiful formation of this rare Gesteines.
- Waterfall at White Sulm, cataract stages of a total of 150 m, scours ( stone mills ), sulfur flowers.

Coat of arms
The award of the municipality coat of arms came into effect on 1 July 1979.
The coat of arms shows a red, broken into three parts Richtrad with eleven spokes as an attribute of Saint Catherine on silvery background. From the cracks grow outwards green birch branches ( birch slaw = Fresen ) with top and bottom three each with five leaves.
