Wilhelm Alexander Freund

Wilhelm Alexander Friend (born 26 August 1833 in Krappitz ( Upper Silesia ), † December 24, 1917 in Berlin) was a German gynecologist.

Life

Alexander Wilhelm Freund was born the son of the physician Heinrich friend in a Jewish family. He attended the Royal Catholic High School in Opole and received in 1851 the testimony he maturity. Originally, he wanted to study architecture, but was not included in the Royal Landesbauschule in Berlin because of his background. Therefore, he decided to study at the University of Breslau medicine. After the MD thesis in 1854 he became an assistant at the Breslau University Women's Hospital. He habilitated in 1860, settled in Breslau as a Privatdozent down and opened a practice as a gynecologist. In 1864 he was appointed without Venia Legendi as Adjunct Professor at the age of about 31 years. With a spa stay in Karlovy Vary in August 1876, he met Karl Marx and his daughter Eleanor Marx know and performed with Marx in an exchange of letters. In 1879 he was awarded as the successor to Adolf Gusserow a call to the chair of gynecology at the Kaiser Wilhelm University, founded in 1871 in Strasbourg. After his retirement in 1901, friend settled in Berlin and published in this period, belletristic literature. On December 24, 1917 William Alexander died friend at the age of 84 years in Berlin.

Work

A literary inspiration
