William Gage, 2nd Viscount Gage

William Hall Gage, 2nd Viscount Gage (* January 1, 1718; † October 11, 1791 ) was an Irish nobleman and politician.

Gage was the eldest son of Thomas Gage, 1st Viscount Gage and Benedicta Maria Theresa Hall. His younger brother was Thomas Gage, the commander-in -chief of the British forces in the early stages of the American Revolutionary War.

From 1744 to 1768 he was a member of the House of Commons for the borough Rotten Seaford in Sussex, which had less than one hundred voters. 1754 Gage inherited when his father died the title Viscount Gage. However, since this was in the Peerage of Ireland, so no automatic seat in the House of Lords was connected so that Gage remained a member of the House of Commons. He was chamberlain to the Prince of Wales in 1757 and married Elizabeth Gideon, the daughter of the banker Sampson Gideon.

1780 Gage the dignity of Baron Gage awarded in the Peerage of Great Britain, which was connected to a seat in the House of Lords. Since she could only go to male descendants and Gage had no son, he is also the title of Baron Gage of High Meadow, which was inherited by the male descendants of his brothers in 1790.

Gage died in 1791, the title Viscount Gage and Baron Gage of High Meadow went to his nephew Henry over.
