William Henry Draper (congressman)

William Henry Draper (* June 24, 1841 in Rochdale, Massachusetts, † December 7, 1921 in Troy, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1913 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Henry Draper was born about five years before the outbreak of the Mexican - American War in Rochdale in Worcester County. His family then moved to Troy in 1847. There he attended public schools until 1856. He then went to commercial transactions. He was ten years as a Trustee of the Village of Lansingburgh. Between 1896 and 1900 he held the post of Commissioner of Jurors in Rensselaer County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1900, for the 57th Congress Draper was in the 19th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Aaron Van Schaick Cochrane on March 4, 1901. In 1902 he ran for the 22th electoral district of New York. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1903, the successor of Lucius Littauer. He was re-elected four times. Since he gave up for reelection in 1912, he retired after March 3, 1913 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went to the manufacture of rope and cord. During this time he was president of W. H. Draper & Sons. He died on 7 December 1921 in Troy and was then buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.
