William L. Shelton

William Lee Shelton ( born February 25, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is a general of the United States Air Force ( USAF) and since January 5, 2011 Commander of Air Force Space Command ( AFSPC ), a major command of the U.S. Air Force with headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Previously, he served from July 2009 as Assistant Vice Chief of Staff and Director, Air Staff of the USAF in the U.S. Department of Defense, Washington, DC

Education and Career

Shelton was born in 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who attended high school in Moore and joined the USAF in 1976 after the United States Air Force Academy, where he had earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering.

Shelton's further education includes master's degrees in aerospace engineering (Air Force Institute of Technology, 1980) and in the National Security Strategy ( National War College, 1995).

Service in the rank of general

From November 2000 to Shelton served as the Director of Requirements at the headquarters of the Air Force Space Command, Colorado, from January 2001 with the rank of brigadier general. Between 2002 and 2003, followed just there uses as Director of Plans and Programs and Director, Air and Space Operations before in June 2003, first as Director of Capability and Resource Integration ( J8 ), then as Director of Plans and Policy (J5 ) to the U.S. Strategic Command ( USSTRATCOM ) was applied to the Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, transferred and promoted in this capacity in July 2004 to Major General.

After nearly a year of service as Commander, Joint Space Operations - also in USSTRATCOM, but on the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California - took over Shelton mid-2005 ibid command of the 14th Air Force and Joint Functional Component Command for Space, which he, in December 2007 appointed Lieutenant General until 2008, serving at. Before the start of his command during the AFSPC Shelton was from December Chief of Warfighting and Chief Information Officer on the staff of the Secretary of the Air Force and most recently Assistant Vice Chief of Staff and Director, Air Staff of the USAF 2008 Integration at the Pentagon.

On 10 September 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama Shelton nominated for the succession of General Robert Kehler, who in turn command of the U.S. Strategic Command, took over as commander of AFSPC. Shelton entered the command on 5 January of the following year, his promotion to general was part of the command transfer.
