William, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal

Wilhelm of Hesse- Philippsthal ( born August 29, 1726 Philippstal; † August 8, 1810 ibid ) was Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal out of the house of Hesse.

Life

William was the eldest son of Count Charles I of Hesse- Philippsthal from his marriage to Katharine Christine (1699-1743), daughter of Duke Johann Wilhelm of Saxe- Eisenach. He succeeded his father in 1770 as Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal.

William was general of the cavalry and governor of Hertogenbosch in the Dutch service. The Landgrave was also Commander of the Order of St. John of the Coming Lagow. 1806 Philipp valley was occupied and the French territory of William assigned to the Kingdom of Westphalia.

William was a member of the League of Freemasons.

Progeny

William married on 26 June 1755 in Tournai his cousin Ulrike Eleonore (* April 27, 1732; † February 2, 1795 ), daughter of the Landgrave William of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld, with whom he had the following children:
