William McClelland

William McClelland ( born March 2, 1842 in Mount Jackson, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, † February 7, 1892 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William McClelland attended Westminster College in New Wilmington. During the Civil War he served four years in the army of the Union. After the war he continued his education at Allegheny College in Meadville on. After a subsequent law degree in 1870 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Mount Jackson to work in this profession. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1870, McClelland was in the 24th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Joseph Benton Donley on March 4, 1871. Since he has not been confirmed in 1872, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1873. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives McClelland practiced as a lawyer again. He died on February 7, 1892 in Harrisburg and was buried in Pittsburgh.
