William Peel (colonial administrator)

Sir William Peel ( born February 27, 1875 in Hexham, Northumberland, England; † February 24, 1945 in London) was a British colonial administrator.

Biography

Peel was since its entry into the colonial administrative service in 1897 mainly in Malaysia and was involved in the following years, including as District Officer, Second Colonial Secretary and Acting Resident in different regions operate.

1923 Peel consultant in the Protectorate of Kedah, before 1925 Resident Council ( Resident Councillor ) in Penang. Subsequently, he was from 1926 to 1930 Chief Secretary of the Federated Malay States, consisting of the protectorates, Pahang, Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. During this time he was knighted ( Knight) in 1928 and led since then the additional name sir.

On 9 May 1930 he was appointed as the successor of Sir Cecil Clementi Governor of Hong Kong. He held five years until May 17, 1935 this office.

His son John Peel was also a colonial administrator and member of the lower house (House of Commons ).
