Winfried Fluck

Winfried Fluck ( born April 2, 1944 in Blumenfeld ) is a German American Studies and professor emeritus at the Free University of Berlin.

Life and work

Fluck studied from 1963 to 1970 English, American and German Studies at the Free University of Berlin, Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. In 1972 he received his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin on aesthetic preconceptions and method. A study using the example of the American Huck Finn - criticism. After his habilitation in 1983, also at the Free University of Berlin. After stints at Harvard University and Yale University Winfried Fluck was first Professor of English and American Literary History at the University of Konstanz and is since 1989 Professor of American Culture at the Free University of Berlin. He was a visiting professor at Princeton and at the Universidad Autonoma in Barcelona, ​​Research Fellow at the National Humanities Center, Chapel Hill, USA, the Advanced Study Center of the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio and the International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna. From 1997 to 2001 he was Speaker of the Research Training Group "The U.S. and the problem of democracy" and from 2005-2008 Speaker of the review board " Literature, Theatre and Media Studies " of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
