It rises about six kilometers north of Cabot. From there, it flows south, crossing the Lower Tabot Town Forest. From Marshfield he meanders mostly along U.S. Highway 2 in southwestern direction.

West of Plainfield when Cate Cemetery opens the Kingsbury Branch in Winooski. From Montpelier it flows (also known as Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway) along the Interstate 89.
