With Oden on Our Side is the sixth studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. It was in Europe on September 25, 2006, published in the German language area on 22 September 2006 in the United States until 3 October 2006.
Genesis
The work on the new album began immediately after returning from a North American tour with Children of Bodom and Trivium. Since the band members now all had no professions in addition to the band, they were able to invest more time in the songwriting and preparatory samples. From January to April, the material was revised and prepared for also prolonged recordings in which all members were present for the first time ever.
The album was until 19 June 2006 at the Swedish Fascination Street Studio in Örebro received by May 3, with the support of producer Jens Bogren, who had been recommended to Amon Amarth from friendly groups Katatonia and Opeth.
Music style
The music is in comparison to the previous album Fate of Norns again significantly harder, a return to their roots. The lyrics deal typical of Amon Amarth with Norse mythology. With the song " Under the Northern Star" by guitarist Johan Söderberg is also a rather balladesque this piece for the first time.
Design
The cover design was again in cooperation with Thomas Ewerhard and differs fundamentally in its simplicity of those of the previous albums. The stylized image of Odin on Sleipnir comes from the Gotland picture stones " Tjängvide " from the 8th, 9th or 10th century, which was discovered in 1844 and is now available on Gotland in Stockholm Historiska Museet. The embossed runes above the display stand for the album title, the bottom right for the band 's name. On the back you will find the runes Othala, Dagaz, Ehwaz and Naudiz for " Oden ".
Versions
Besides the versions on CD and vinyl, there are also a limited digipak edition, containing a bonus CD. This was originally supposed to include a live recording of the Wacken Open Air, but since the live DVD Wrath of the Norsemen had recently published, this plan was discarded. In addition to two live songs, the CD contains now additional demos and previously unreleased material. In addition, a limited LP version was released, which was pressed on red vinyl.
