Władysław Rubin

Wladyslaw Cardinal Rubin ( born September 20, 1917 in Toki, Poland, † November 28, 1990 at the Vatican ) was Auxiliary Bishop of Gniezno and later a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Władysław Rubin studied in Lviv, Beirut and Rome Catholic theology and philosophy. During the Second World War he was interned in a labor camp and joined after his dismissal of the Polish Army. In 1946, he received in Beirut, the sacrament of Holy Orders and supervised there then as a pastor, the Polish refugees. Further studies led him to Italy, where he worked in the years 1953 to 1958 at various locations Polish immigrants. From 1959 to 1964 he headed in Rome as rector of the Pontifical College for students from Poland.

On November 17, 1964 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Serta and Auxiliary Bishop of Gniezno. He received his episcopal consecration of the Polish Primate, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, on 29 November of the same year. This also appointed him as commissioner of the Primate of Poland for the pastoral care of Polish emigrants. In February 1967, he served as Secretary General of the World Synod of Bishops. Pope John Paul II took Wladyslaw Rubin on June 30, 1979 as a cardinal deacon with the title of Santa Maria in Via Lata diakonia in the College of Cardinals, and gave him in 1980 the Office of the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. On October 30, 1985, he laid down this post but before reaching the age limit. Two days before his death, he was raised while retaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice. He died on 28 November 1990 and found his final resting place in the Cathedral of Lubaczów in the Archdiocese of Lviv.
