Wolfgang Güldenpfennig

Wolfgang Güldenpfennig ( born December 20, 1951 in Magdeburg ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic. In 1976 he succeeded in the quadruple sculls Olympic victory.

Wolfgang Güldenpfennig from SC Magdeburg began his career in the double sculls, but rose in 1972 to the One. In the 1972 Olympics he finished in third place behind Yuri Malischew from the Soviet Union and the Argentine Alberto Demiddi. The following year he again won bronze in one, this time at the European Championships.

1975 rose to Güldenpfennig in the quadruple sculls. Together with Christof Kreuziger, Stefan White and Wolfgang honey he won at the World Championships in Nottingham. The following year, the quadruple sculls approached in an entirely new cast. Together with Güldenpfennig sat Rüdiger Reiche, Karl -Heinz Bussert and Michael Wolfgramm in the boat. This new crew won at the 1976 Olympic Games with a second ahead of the boat from the Soviet Union. The following year, the sculls came again with a different cast: To Güldenpfennig and Bussert Frank Dundr and Martin Winter were moved into the boat, the four won at the World Championships in Amsterdam the title. After two Olympic medals and two World Championship titles Güldenpfennig then ended his career.

In 1976 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

Wolfgang Güldenpfennig had completed his university studies in sport during his career at the DHfK and later worked as a coach at SC Magdeburg.
