Wolfgang Peters (canoeist)

Wolfgang Peters ( born July 3, 1948 in sword ), is a former German canoe slalom athletes. In 1967 and 1969, he was three times world champion, once Vice World Champion and twice bronze medalist.

Peters grew up in sword and celebrated his first success with the Canoe Club sword. He was a total of 25 - times German champion in the class of boat slalom canoe - One (C1) and two - Canadians (C2 ) team. In 1967 he won the bronze medal as a 19- year-old Eastern bloc against the strong competition surprising in Lipno ( CSSR ) the World Cup title and the team with Otto Stumpf and Harald Cuypers. In 1969, he repeated the individual title at Bourg St. Maurice ( Savoy) and was with the team ( Reinhold Kauder / Harald Cuypers ) also world champion. The World Championships in 1971 in Merano, he was awarded the 4th place and the silver medal in the team race with C1 from Reinhold Kauder and Harald Cuypers. At the Olympic Games in 1972 he started as one of the favorites in the Augsburg ice track as he lived in Augsburg since 1971, but came to a disappointing 5th place for him. Due to the elimination of the canoe slalom from the Olympic program ( only since 1992 in the program) and the self-employment ended Peters 1974 his international sports career. He opened a sports shop in 1974 sword, which he ran until 1993. His two children Violetta Oblinger - Peters and Yves Peters are also active in canoe slalom. Since 1993 he has been working as a freelance consultant nationwide for retailers.
