Since the toponym (1200 Walterestorp ) is of German origin, the beginning of today's settlement probably dates back to German immigrants. The mention of 1200 is the first official documentary evidence, and there is yet an obviously younger deed in which the gift of the village on the collegiate monastery of Our Lady of the Magdeburg is confirmed with the fake date of 1015. Follows from the second half of the 14th century are more genuine documents that include the name " Wolterstorp " known.

End of the 18th century were those of Alvensleben landlords, they were replaced in 1881 by bourgeois owners. 1840 possessed the estate 650 acres of land, while the local community just over 225 hectares of agricultural land possessed.

Some small industries moved in, as Wolter village in 1892 to the railway line Magdeburg - was connected Loburg. But the steam mill, a sawmill and the harmonica factory had again soon cease to operate. On the plot of the harmonica factory, a large grain elevator was built later.

Since 1818 Wolter village belonged to the Prussian circle Jerichow I with the county town of Burg. In this district town, it remained, as the GDR with its territorial reform of 1952 created the new circle castle. Already in 1945 the estate was expropriated by the conditions imposed by the Soviet occupation forces land reform and the land was divided among 52 new farmers. However, their independence only lasted until 1953, then their farms were transferred as part of the run by the GDR authorities collectivization of agriculture in a LPG. 1960 included four LPG from Königsborn, Nedlitz, Büden and Wolter village in wholesale LPG " Ernst Thalmann " together. It had its headquarters in Wolter village and farmed 2,500 acres of land.

After the end of the GDR in the neighboring town was Büden an agricultural cooperative, which also took over the management of Woltersdorfer surfaces. Thus, the place had no established business enterprise more. The former agricultural character changed in favor of a housing development. With the merger of the counties castle and Genthin Wolter village in 1994 came to the district Jerichower country. From 2005 to 2009, the city was a member of the administrative community Biederitz - Moser.
