Wörlitz is a district of the town Oranienbaum -Wörlitz in Wittenberg district in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Wörlitz lies south of the Elbe in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve between Dessau and Wittenberg. The area around Worlitz is flat and is crossed by numerous oxbow lakes of the Elbe as well as ditches and streams. Remnants of sand dunes ( "Wild Mountain " ) from the last ice age are the only a few meters high elevations. The biggest backwater is the Woerlitzer lake just north of the city.

Wörlitz is located on the Orange Route, a German - Dutch holiday road.

Part of the district boundary to the district Griese runs along the federal highway 107 So part of the western side of the street as a village road to Griese and the eastern side of the street as Lambsheimer road to Wörlitz.

History

On November 13, 1004 Wörlitz was first mentioned. Already in 1440 the site was designated as a city.

Wörlitz is the Woerlitzer park the highlight of the Dessau- Wörlitz empire that. During the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt- Dessau (1740-1817) was created. He took a prominent personalities such as Erdmannsdorff, Rust and Graves to his court. Contacts and connections there were to England, France ( Rousseau ) and Italy. On 1 July 2007, the municipality Wörlitz was incorporated in the district of Wittenberg as a result of the district reform of the former district of Anhalt -Zerbst. In a plebiscite on 14 May 2006, the inhabitants of the city Wörlitz had voted with about 59 % of the vote for annexation to Dessau. But finally decided the City Council of Wörlitz, the result of the plebiscite was not binding. In addition, the city of Dessau, the district of Wittenberg and Saxony- Anhalt would have to agree.

Since January 1, 2011 Wörlitz is part of the newly formed town Oranienbaum -Wörlitz.

  • Wörlitz is located on the county road K2376 (formerly Federal Road 107) from Oranienbaum to Coswig and on the county road K2042 after Riesigk. The Federal Highway 9 junction Vockerode is about 7 km away.
  • Between Wörlitz and Coswig wrong yaw cable ferry across the Elbe. At high tide the ferry is not being operated, and the road is then often flooded.
  • The nearest train stations of the Deutsche Bahn are located in Coswig ( line Roßlau (Elbe ) -Wittenberg ) and Dessau ( line Roßlau -Bitterfeld ). The Wörlitz station on the railway line Dessau- Gohrau - Rehsen is operated only in the summer season.
