Name
It has its name from the eponymous Wörnitz, the community flowing river, Wörnitz which opens at Donauwörth into the Danube.

History
The main town Wörnitz located at the crossroads of major highways and formerly was destroyed in medieval and early modern times. An old settlement on the present hall Bramstedt said to have been burnt down in 1388. 1449 were parts of the Ämtleins Wörnitz devastated again. In the Thirty Years' War the town was destroyed several times from 1632. Dense fog, which the village for imperial and Croatian forces ( because of their colorful uniforms Turks called ) is not made visible, thanks to the sparing of the place before further destruction. Since then, the so-called Turks ringing takes place in Wörnitz morning at eight clock. The town center was completely refurbished in 1990. It was situated on the village square in front of the village church of St. Martin a large plastic, reminiscent of the repeated destruction of the place and the sparing of the " Turks".
Incorporations
On November 1, 1971, the independent municipalities Bottenweiler and ore were merged with Wörnitz.

Policy
Parish council
After the last municipal election on March 2, 2008, the council has twelve members, all belonging to the group Free voter community. The turnout was 59.7 %. Another member and chairman of the municipal council is the mayor.
Coat of arms
The Coat of Arms description is: Argent, a mountain from a green three- occupied with a silver wave beams, growing green lime, beseitet of two red crenellated towers, which are connected by a red wall.

Structures
In the center of Wörnitz is the village church of St. Martin. In the square in front of it stands an ancient court Linde. A plastic commemorates the sparing of the place during the Thirty Years' War, the land consolidation in 1977 and village renewal in 1990.

Regular events
Every two years there is the largest commercial vehicle oldtimer meeting in Wörnitz in September in southern Germany. At the 11th meeting of the year 2009, around 300 vehicles from all over Germany and other European countries were represented.

Traffic
Wörnitz is situated on the A7 motorway (junction 109 Wörnitz ) and is connected by state road 2419 to the A 6 (Junction 49 wet cheeks North ).
