Wu Han (historian)
Wu Han (Chinese吴 晗; * 1909 in Zhejiang, † 1969) was a Chinese historian and writer.
His most famous contribution is a 1959 historical article published on the official Hai Rui, who later became the stage play Hai Rui is deprived of his office (or Hai Rui dismissed ) was processed. The sharp criticism of this piece by Yao Wenyuan in November 1965 sparked in the PRC from a momentous debate about the function of literature and performing arts, which is at the origin of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.
