Yakhroma

Yakhroma (Russian Яхрома ) is a town with 13,214 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the northern Moscow Oblast, Russia. It is located away from the raion center Dmitrov on the Moscow - Volga Canal, 55 km north of Moscow and 8 km to the south.

History

The city, whose name was taken from the same river and a Finno-Ugric origin, has emerged in 1841 as a workers' settlement of a cloth manufacture. Originally named after the factory Pokrowskaja Manufaktura. 1901 was the place with the construction of the Moscow- Kimry a railway terminal and a train station, which was named after the river Yakhroma. Later, the settlement took the name. In 1940 she was awarded the status of a city. In the Battle of Moscow during the Second World War Yakhroma was contested and in the fall of 1941 temporarily under German occupation.

Economy and infrastructure

The main industries are Jachromas which emerged from the former cloth factory textile factory and a bus repair facility. An important economic factor is tourism, since Yakhroma is considered one of the largest ski resorts in the Moscow metropolitan area. Nationally known example is the built in 1997 Sportpark Volen with ski runs, chair lifts and hotels.

Yakhroma has a regional railway station on the route Moscow - Kimry, consisting of the compounds of inter alia the Savyolovsky railway station in Moscow.
