Yas Island

The Yas Island (Arabic جزيرة ياس Jazeera Yas, Yas Ǧazīra DMG ) is on the main island, one of the larger natural islands in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She is from north to south 7.7 km long and up to 6.2 km wide, and has an area of 25 km ².
Yas is located in the mangrove belt east of the main island, south on the mainland lies the coastal area of Al Raha touristy developed, some 7 km to the southeast lies the Abu Dhabi airport. The flat sandy island is currently developed with a 40- billion-dollar development project by Aldar Properties to 2013 and thus changed fundamentally.
These shorelines are straightened, filled as new faces, edged by a navigable canal from 90 to 140 m in width and thus also made from the sea reached. On the island area bridges and roads are built and created accompanying forest belt against erosion. The area of the original island is thus increased by about a third to about 25 square kilometers.
