Yerevan International Film Festival

The International Film Festival "Golden Apricot " (Armenian " Ոսկե Ծիրան » Միջազգային Կինոփառատոն, Woske Ziran Midschasgajin Kinoparaton, in scientific transliteration " Oske Ciran » Miǰazgayin Kinop'aṙaton ) is a film festival in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

The festival was held in June 2004 for the first time. Main initiator was the Armenian director Harutjun Khachaturian. President of the festival is the Armenian- Canadian director Atom Egoyan. The name comes from the apricot, which is the national fruit of Armenia. Main awards are the "Golden Apricot " and the smaller " silver apricot ". It has become a tradition that during the opening ceremony in the open air in front of the cinema theater "Moscow" in the center of Yerevan, a clergyman of the Armenian Apostolic Church baskets of apricots inaugurates, which are then distributed to the audience.

There are top prizes for the best feature film and documentary, since 2007, a FIPRESCI Prize (before there was a prize from the Armenian film critic ). In the " Armenian Panorama" Armenian films from around the world are shown. Since the genocide of 1915 lives a large part of the Armenian people in the Diaspora, especially in Lebanon, France and the United States. Since 2005 dollars for the life's work of internationally renowned directors will be given. He bears the name of Sergei Paradschanows, the largest Armenian film director of all time.

Out of competition run more especially Armenian movies, as well as classics of film history. In 2007, the festival was opened The Lark with the Italian film. Also because of the geographical proximity many films from Iran are also shown, however, Turkish and Arabic.
