Yershov, Saratov Oblast

Yershov (Russian Ершов, scientific transliteration Eršov ) is a Russian city with 21,448 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and the center of the Rajons same name in the Saratov Oblast.

Location

Yershov is located at the headwaters of the river Kleiner users in the eastern Saratov Oblast, 180 km from the regional center of Saratov and about 100 km from the border with Kazakhstan removed. The nearest town is Balakowo, located 80 km north of Yershov.

History

Yershov was founded in 1893 as a railway settlement around the station a year later opened Jerschowo the former Ryazan -Ural Railway. Initially, the station was off the track Pokrowsk - Uralsk, also operated from 1895 by the branch line of Yershov after Nikolaievsk. From 1898, railway workshops and a locomotive depot was built near the Jerschower station; other industries, however was not in place.

In 1914, surpassed the population of the station settlement, which belonged to the government of Samara to 1917, the first time the border of 1000th 1928 Yershov was the administrative center of Rajons Yershov in the Saratov Oblast. However, the city status was the place until 1963.

Economy

With a connection to two railway lines and on the European Route 38 Yershov is a regionally significant transportation hub with a large railway depot, which is one of the most important companies in the city. Otherwise, the industry in Yershov is only slightly marked with a few food factories.
