Zakaria Goneim

Muhammad Zakaria Goneim (Arabic زكريا غنيم, DMG Zakariya Ġunaim; * 1905, † January 2, 1959 ) was an Egyptian Egyptologist.

He discovered the unfinished step pyramid of Sekhemkhet ( Djoser - Teti ) from the 3rd Dynasty at Saqqara ( Sekhemkhet pyramid ). As a result of the temporary disappearance of artefacts and in view of the empty sarcophagus of suspicion was voiced in the media, Goneim had embezzled objects or actively traded with antiques. He was relieved by the investigation by the French Egyptologist Jean -Philippe Lauer, who could make a missing piece properly Fund in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo identified. The proof of Goneims innocence, however, came too late - the day before Goneim had probably himself overthrown by a Nile bridge.
