Zakłady Azotowe Pulawy SA ( German nitrogen works Pulawy ) is a Polish chemical company based in Pulawy, Lublin Voivodeship, specializing in the volume production of nitrogen fertilizers with one of the components ( ammonium nitrate, urea, nitric solution of urea, ammonium sulphate ); also one of the world's largest manufacturer of melamine and the largest Polish companies in the large-scale chemical synthesis industry.

History

Period of the Polish People's Republic

The decision to build the nitrogen fertilizer factory in Pulawy was taken on December 19, 1960. After a construction period of five years starting on June 4, 1966, the production of ammonia and urea. In the years 1967 to 1970, the production was followed by carbon dioxide and dry ice.

In 1970 the decision was made to build a production plant for caprolactam, from 1975 to 1977 was the first production line for melamine.

In the 80 years of the 20th century, the first progress in the area of environmental protection has been achieved. Among other things, a sewage treatment plant was built on the production line for caprolactam. In parallel, the fertilizer - range was extended: The first fertilizer with two components being fabricated, a nitric solution of urea.

Period of the Third Republic of Poland

On 1 September 1992, the company became a state-owned joint-stock company and got its current name. On 14 November 1995 the production line was set for hydrogen peroxide in transition. On 15 November 1998, a plant for sodium orthophosphate borane followed. Moreover, technologically obsolete production lines were replaced and modernized for urea and ammonia.

In the years 2000 to 2004 in succession two new production lines were set for melamine in motion in collaboration with the company Eurotecnica, since then the company has a 10 percent share of world production of this chemical compound.

By 2005 the state was 99.99 % of the shares of the company owner. In 2005 the company was privatized through an IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange ( GPW ), but the state remained the holder of a majority package.

On 30 October 2007 the Special Economic Zone Starachowice was decided with the subarea Pulawy. Within the sub-area Pulawy Zakłady Azotowe Pulawy SA is located in the industrial park of Pulawy and covers an area of about 99 ha.

In 2008 Zakłady Azotowe Pulawy SA received under the provisions of the SEZ approval for the expansion of capacity for urea by about 270,000 t / year and Ad Blue up to 100,000 t / year. These investments were completed in 2010. At the same time the company Air Liquide received the commercial approval in the territory of the special economic zone for the production of technical gases for the purpose of Zakłady Azotowe Pulawy SA and other customers.

2011, the Company acquired a 98.43 - percent stake in the Danziger operating for phosphorus fertilizer " Fosfory Sp z oo " and extended the trading range to phosphorus fertilizer and fertilizer mixtures.

2012, the Company acquired a 85- percent stake in the chemical plants of Chorzów Adipol - Azoty SA, and expanded the trade offer, inter alia, potassium nitrate, calcium nitrate and chemical food additives.

Sports clubs

Zakłady Azotowe in Pulawy currently sponsor the Handball Club Azoty - Pulawy, which was created in 2003 by the selection of players from the club Wisła Pulawy that emerges in the PGNiG Superleague.
