Zámutov

Zámutov (Hungarian Opálhegy - to 1907 Zamutó ) a municipality in Okres Vranov nad Topľou the Prešov Region is in the east of Slovakia. The population was 2,996 persons on December 31, 2010.

Geography

The municipality is located in the eastern foothills of Slanské Hills on Bach Zámutovský creek and located 11 kilometers west of the city Vranov nad Topľou. Transport default, the location is accessed by a county road from neighboring Čaklov which lies on the main road 18.

History

The town was founded in the early 14th century by a mayor and is first mentioned in 1402 as Zamuth writing. He belonged to the manor of Castle Čičava. After the extinction of Rozgony family in 1523, who owned the castle, the place came to the family Báthory and changed since the 17th century on his owner how Barkoczy, Almássy and Szirmay.

The population engaged in agriculture, forestry and charcoal burning. There were also two small mills and a distillery and were temporarily reduced in the municipality lignite, iron ore and opals. At the Opalförderung still remembers the Hungarian name used from 1907 ( Opálhegy literally means "Opal Mountain" ).

Zámutov is also connected to the so-called East Slovakian peasant uprising of 1831, since the location of the centers of the insurgents was.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Semplin in the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia, and now Slovakia.
