Závadka, Gelnica District

Závadka ( Trichtbrunn German, Hungarian Görögfalu - to 1907 Zavadka ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 607 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Gelnica, a circle of the Košice Region and is counted to the traditional landscape Zips.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Hnilecké Hills, in the catchment area of the river Hnilec. The center is located at an altitude of 819 m nm and is 26 kilometers by road from Ves and 38 kilometers by road from Gelnica away.

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1352 and belonged to gender Máriássy. The original inhabitants were Slavs with some Germans. In the 14th century there were iron ore and copper mines. Go to the top of the 16th century were Rusyn settler population majority, after the previous inhabitants probably left the village. The Ruthenians were mostly shepherds and guardians on a trade route from Buda to Kraków. In the 18th century, and there were again mines where copper, gold and silver were mined. 1828 are listed 105 houses and 685 inhabitants.
