Závod, Slovakia

Závod ( until 1927 slovak " Závody "; Hungarian Pozsonyzávod - to 1907 Závod ) is a municipality in western Slovakia.

Location

It is located in the region Zahorie in the lowlands Záhorská nížina, about 14 km north of the western Slovak city of Malacky and about 50 km from the capital Bratislava. In parts of its territory lies the nature reserve Abrod and west of the D2 motorway links to the railway line Bratislava - Kúty - Břeclav.

History

The first written mention was made in 1557 as Zawad. The name is said to derive from the Hungarian word " zab " for oats. Závod is actually called " za vodu " and in German means " after the / in the water ," meaning: after the / in the river Morava.
