Zayd ibn Thabit

Zaid ibn Thabit ibn ad - Dahhak al - Ansari (Arabic زيد بن ثابت بن الضحاك الأنصاري, DMG Zaid b. Thabit b. Dahhak al - Ansari AD ) was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad and wrote down the revelations.

Zaid ibn Thabit is considered one of the most respected scribes of Mohammed of which it is said to have given to the death of the Prophet ( 632 ) is about 40. Then the prophet was ignorant of writing, put this (also referred to as " secretaries " Schreiber ) down the sacred text of the revelations to Muhammad's behest. According to reports, Zaid ibn Thabit said to have worked in the last years of the Prophet on a compilation of the time only as " verbal protocols " existing and collected Suren without being able to finish this work.

At the request of the third Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, he developed 644-653 a compilation of the Qur'an texts as the canonical version of the Koran for all Islamic communities is valid up to today. Preceding versions of the Koran are considered incomplete ( although accurate in the text ). They were already under the first Caliph Abu Bakr in use. The uthmansche Koran issue was after its completion in the five core areas of Islam, Mecca, Medina, Damascus, Basra and Kufa sent. Crucial to a relatively slow spread of the final version of the Koran was the fact that the doctrine was passed mainly by preachers and reciters, after Arab tradition in the text. Written copies of these served only as a template. The uthmansche version counts as the only valid one. The previous copies, as far as they can still find, only historical significance.
