Zemplínska Teplica

Zemplínska Teplica (Slovak 1948-1955 " Zemplínsky Svätý Kríž " - 1927-1948 " Kerestúr " - older " Križovany " or " Križanovce "; Hungarian Szécskeresztúr ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, ( at 31 December 2011) with 1559 inhabitants and is located in Okres Trebišov, kraj a circle of Košice.

Geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the East Slovak Lowland by the stream Teplica, in the shadow of the western mountain range lying Slanské Hills, at an altitude of 202 m nm The center is located ten kilometers south-west of Sečovce and 16 kilometers west of Trebišov. From Zemplínska Teplica the roads to Veľké Ozorovce, egres and Slanské Nové Mesto (the last one already in Okres Košice - okolie ).

History

The place was probably in the 12th or 13th century on a dirt road intersection. For the first time Zemplínska Teplica is mentioned in a document of 1263 as Cristur. The starting point for this name was the local church, which was dedicated to the Holy Cross. In the late Middle Ages were the place some vineyards and there was time, a water mill, and he was otherwise dominated by agriculture. Major landowners over the centuries were Perényi, Báthory, Drugeth and Soos. 1828 are listed 117 houses and 879 inhabitants. 1831 was the site of one of the centers of the East Slovakian peasant uprising, recalls the day a plaque.

Since 1955, the current local name is used because the name " Svätý Kríž " ( = Holy Cross ), who had the Hungarian sounding name " Kerestúr " replaced itself in 1948 in communist Czechoslovakia was considered undesirable.
