The Okres Žiar nad Hronom ( German District Holy Cross at the Gran ) is an administrative unit in central Slovakia with 47 803 inhabitants ( 2004) and an area of 532 km ².
Historically, the district is located entirely within the former county bars (see also List of historic counties of Hungary ).
