Architectural History

The emergence of Złote Tarasy goes back to a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Warsaw and the developer in 1995. The construction was accompanied by many problems and the completion of the plant has been delayed several times. The building was erected by the Złote Tarasy Sp z oo, a joint venture company between the majority shareholder, ING Real Estate and the municipality Warszawa Śródmieście. A Polish subsidiary of the Swedish construction company Skanska has been engaged as general contractor.

Construction took place in late 2002. In 2004, the construction work had to be interrupted for several months, as a supposedly environmentally supportive Association ( Stowarzyszenie Przyjazne Miasto) as well as members of the Żółkowski family, who owned the plot before the Second World War, had complained against the building. After this procedure in favor of the development company had been decided the construction in 2005 could be continued. The originally planned completion date in the fall of 2005 could not be met. As a result of litigation and the construction was halted in the city wanted to sell in the fall of 2004, their share in the development company for 57 million zloty to the partner. In 2005 it came under the multi-screen cinema project to a further delay in construction and in 2006 led to construction problems to yet another postponement of the completion date. In February 2007, the shopping center was finally opened. The Mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz -Waltz, recognized the importance of investing for the redesign of the environment and the creation of around 2,000 jobs in her speech at the opening.

Current owners of the complex are Rodamco Europe BV and ING Real Estate Asset Management.
