Zou Department
Zou is a department of Benin, with its capital Abomey.
Geography
The Department is located in the south of the country, bordered to the north by the Department Collines, on the southwest by the Department Atlantique, on the southeast by the Department Ouémé, in the north- west by Togo, to the west by the Department Couffo and on the east by the department plateau.
Population
At the last census in 2002 counted 599 954 inhabitants the department.
Ethnic groups
The Fon constitute 86.5 % of the population share the majority of the population. The Mahi comprise 4.8% of the population.
Religions
Christianity has a following of 43.5 % over a narrow relative majority ( including 59 % Catholic, 19% members of the Eglise de Céleste and 14% followers of other African Independent Churches ). Very close second (unofficial practice many Christians that religion ) is 40.4 % of the voodoo cult. Islam does not play a role with a share of 2.8%.
History
In 1999 the northern part was separated as Department Collines.
