Zug Stadtbahn

The light rail train was opened as a nationwide S -Bahn system on the territory of the Canton train and neighboring regions on 12 December 2004.

It uses the existing railway lines of the Swiss Federal Railways, but it additional stops were created. At the opening of the light rail a total of nine new stations were built. Since 2008, at the bus stops and Zythus Chämleten also the second platform available. For the future, nor the construction of three additional stops planned or already under construction. The former regional stations Cham, Oberwil and Walchwil only be operated by S-Bahn trains since 2004.

The transition between the S -Bahn Lucerne / Central Switzerland and the light rail train is fluent, so for example they have a common number range.

History

Through the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Canton train the light rail train was launched from 1996 as a project. This project was presented from 7 to 9 May 1999, the population and different manufacturers of rolling stock, presented their latest vehicles. Following the successful referendum of 4 March 2001, the project was implemented by the Office of Public Transport.

For a total of 67 million Swiss francs to 12 December 2004 following infrastructures have been created for the light rail train:

  • Upgrading the physical and accessible design of the six existing stations Baar, train, Cham, Rotkreuz, Oberwil and Walchwil,
  • Construction of 9 stops along the two railway lines,
  • Technical improvement of the SBB line to shorten the headway.

City train S1

S 1 Baar- train - Cham - Red Cross ( Lucerne)

In order to allow the quarter hour and can improve rail services, the distance between Cham and the Red Cross had to be expanded into a double track. This section, between Cham and cart included in the municipality of Risch Freudenberg, was inaugurated on 10 December 2008 and taken to the timetable change on 14 December 2008. Red Cross - - train - Baar - Thalwil - Parallel to the limping quarter-hour S1, the route through the half-hour Interregio Lucerne Zurich is operated.

Between 2004 and 2008, new stations were built, so namely " Baar Neufeld ", " Baar Lindenpark ", " train Guardian Angel ", " train Chollermüli ", " Cham Alps view ", " giant mountain Zythus " and " giant mountain Chämleten ". However, the stop Hünenberg Chämleten is not served by all trains.

In the future, due to the large park - and-ride offer to Red Cross, the Red Cross stop Ruti, which would come to lie in front of the freight station to be built. However, this can last until 2015. In addition to this new station to connect Freudenberg - Rotkreuz planned, so can run trains from train to Arth -Goldau about Cham. However, this will not happen before 2015. This would serve to relieve the distance over Walchwil.

Rail line S2

S 2 Baar Lindenpark - train - Walchwil - Arth -Goldau ( Erstfeld )

On 10 December 2008, the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of S2 " train casino " was held at the newly built station. The project involved the construction of a third track between the main station and train Baar Lindenpark with adjustments to the existing tracks and at the stop Baar Lindenpark and the demolition and partial replacement of a coach house. The project includes the construction of two new stations " train casino " and " Walchwil Hörndli " and the extension of the stop " train Oberwil " to a Kreuzungssstation. The project was estimated at about 30 million Swiss francs. This is followed by the federal government contributed as part of the infrastructure fund with about 15 million Swiss francs.

The new stop " train casino " was opened on 11 December 2009 and has been available since the timetable change on 13 December 2009. The complete passage of S2 from Walchwil to Baar Lindenpark and the leadership of the half-hour on this section was made from the timetable change on 12 December 2010. From this time also the new station " Walchwil Hörndli " was used. In " Hörndli " are almost exclusively only the features of the short- run with.

In addition to the S2 run the Interregio Zurich - Arth -Goldau stopping in train and the Euro City Zurich - Milan. It runs once every hour until after Erstfeld and once an hour back to train.

Rolling stock

The actual vehicle for the operation of Line 1 is the SBB RABe 523 During commissioning were not enough vehicles available so that a SBB RBDe 560 with Bt ( NPZ ) and a B was used as a means of Thurbo car. Also in 2008, were features of the regions, the Basel S -Bahn used. Since December 2008, this is no longer the case, since the light rail train has got new trains and the entire vehicle fleet consists of twelve RABe 523.
