's-Gravenzande

's- Gravenzande is a neighborhood of the Dutch city of Westland. The village lies on the North Sea near the mouth of the Rhine at Hoek van Holland, a few kilometers south of The Hague, and counted 2005 19.138 inhabitants.

History

The municipality of Westland was not founded until January 1, 2004, until then, was ' s- Gravenzande an independent municipality. Westland is the densely built-up area between The Hague, Rotterdam, the Rheinmündungsarm New Waterway and the North Sea, which is completely built with the exception of residential space and traffic routes with greenhouses. The area of ​​the greenhouse cultivation is about the city of The Hague, which the West Country nicknamed " the Glass City " earned.

Before the merger, the village Heenweg was a district of 's- Gravenzande until 1914, Hoek van Holland, however, which is part of Rotterdam since then.

The Count and later Roman- German anti-king, William of Holland granted 's- Gravenzande 1246 the municipal law. Wilhelm remained, as did his father Florens IV, often in 's- Gravenzande on. The count's court owes the place the first half of his name, the second refers to an earlier, then silted estuary.
