1-octene is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon ( specifically, the olefins ) and is isomeric to iso-octene, and frequently occurs in conjunction with this and other isomers.
Occurrence
1-octene is a product in the distillation of petroleum and is used as a component present in the gasoline.
Production and representation
Industrially, it is produced in two ways. Oligomerization of ethylene (which this method is different ) and by Fischer- Tropsch synthesis with subsequent purification.
Properties
With water boiling at 88 ° C azeotrope is formed. The azeotrope is 28.7 % water and 71.3 Ma Ma % of 1- octene.
Use
1-octene is also used as a starting material for organic syntheses, for example, as a comonomer in the production of polyethylene, and in the preparation of linear aldehydes by hydroformylation.
Safety
The vapors of 1- octene combine with air to form an explosive mixture (flash point 10 ° C).
