153P/Ikeya–Zhang

The comet was discovered 153P/Ikeya-Zhang in 2002 by two independently operating astronomers. The Chinese astronomer Zhang Daqing discovered on 1 February 2002 in the constellation Cetus a new comet, which he reported to the IAU. However, the Japanese astronomer Kaoru Ikeya discovered the comet and a half hours earlier because in Japan the sun goes down earlier than in China. However, since the two observers independently discovered the comet within 24 hours, the comet was the initial designation C/2002 C1 Ikeya - Zhang.

The comet passed perihelion on 18 March 2002, with an apparent magnitude of 3.5 m, which he could be observed with the naked eye. This he was the brightest comet since 1997.

His calculated orbital period is 366.51 years. It was confirmed later that Ikeya - Zhang was observed by Chinese astronomers in 1661 before, but especially with the discovered by Hevelius on 3 February 1661 to 10 March observed comet P/1661 C1 is identical. Finally, he received the final designation 153P/Ikeya-Zhang.
