16 Years of Alcohol

Desolation - 16 Years of Alcohol is a British film directed by Richard Jobson, which was presented in 2003 at the International Film Festival of Locarno. He was greatly affected by Clockwork Orange and Trainspotting. The plot is based on a book by the director from the year 1987.

Action

In the opening scene we see how Frankie, the protagonist of the film is deposited by a small group of men. Whether he survives, is left open.

The rest of the film is a flashback and can be roughly divided into three parts. Frankie problematic childhood, his time as a skinhead and a time of change, in which he tried to believe in hope and love. He enters into a relationship with Helen and decides to join Alcoholics Anonymous or a similar group. Helen studied art and worked in a record shop. As the differences between them are too obvious, she leaves him. Later, Frankie joins a theater group in which he meets Mary, with whom he begins an affair. After some time she rejects him, but without any significant reason. He decides to apologize to her, and will be adjusted and beaten on the way to her from his former friends.
