The XXIII. Athletics South America Championships were held until May 16, 1965 in Rio de Janeiro on 8. The most successful competitor was the Venezuelan Sprinter Victor Maldonado with three gold medals. For women, the Argentinian Marta Buongiorno won two gold medals and one silver medal.
