1968 African Cup of Nations

The African Cup of Nations 1968 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the sixth playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from January 12 to 21 for the second time after 1962 in Ethiopia instead. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) took first eight teams Algeria, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Republic of Congo, Senegal and Uganda in part.

As in previous years was a qualification for the reduction of the field with a record number of 22 candidates to eight finalists will take place, with hosts Ethiopia and reigning champion Ghana qualified automatically

Played with two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group then played from the semi-finals in the knockout system from the tournament winner. This finals format should be up to the tournament have one exception 1976 1990 inventory. The games of the finals were today capital of Eritrea held in Addis Ababa Stadium in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and Asmara Stadium in Asmara.

The crew of the Democratic Republic of Congo won the tournament and was the first time African champions in football.
