1970 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship

The Volleyball World Championship for Men 1970 was held from 20 September to 2 October in Bulgaria instead. The East won for the first time the title and caused quite the biggest success so far of a German team. The Games were held in Sofia, Yambol, Haskovo and Kardzhali.

Mode

The 24 participants played in the first round in four groups of six. The top two teams in each group determined in the final group the World Champion, and the results of the direct duels were incorporated into the final round. The third and fourth group played to the ranks of nine to sixteen, the remaining teams for places 17 to 24, the new world champion and the second-and third-place finisher qualified for the 1972 Olympics.

The GDR selection with coach Herbert Jenter and Kapitan Siegfried Schneider defeated in the last match of the final round of the host and won the only World Cup title for Germany. Next played Jürgen Freiwald, Horst Hagen, Jürgen boiler, Jürgen Maune, Peter Horst, corner hardware Pietzsch, Arnold Schulz, Rudi Schumann, Rainer Tscharke, Wolfgang and Wolfgang Webner way.
