( 19730 ) Machiavelli is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 7 December 1999 by the U.S. amateur astronomer Charles W. Juels at Fountain Hills Observatory (IAU code 678 ) in the U.S. state of Arizona.

The asteroid was named after the Florentine politician, diplomat, philosopher, historian and poet Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527), the ( " The Prince " ) applies because of his work Il Principe as one of the most important political philosophers of modern times.
