1984 UEFA European Under-18 Championship
The fourth U-18 Football Championship was held in the Soviet Union from May 25 to June 3, 1984. The winner was Hungary. Carried a 3-2 victory on penalties to hosts The GDR as well as the difference from Switzerland in the first round. The Federal Republic of Germany could not qualify as defending champions France and Austria.
For the last time the tournament was held with 16 teams. The UEFA shortened for the next tournament the number of participants to eight teams. Furthermore, the tournament should be held in future only every two years.

The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Within the groups played each team once against each other. The group winners reached the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reached the finals, the loser of the semi-finals played for third place.

Hungary is the first time U-18 European Football Championships. Apart from Hungary, Bulgaria, England, Ireland, Poland and the Soviet Union qualified for the Junior World Cup in 1985.
