Cutting off the German teams

Federal Republic of Germany

With a 1-0 win against Sweden in Münster the Federal Republic of Germany succeeded in group 2 a good start. However, this was followed by three disappointing Away Games. In Portugal had a 1-2 defeat to be accepted, in Czechoslovakia it was enough at least to a 1-1. The 1-2 defeat in Sweden threw the Federal Republic of Germany finally out of the race to win the group. After a 2-0 victory over Portugal in Karlsruhe and a 3-1 win against Czechoslovakia in Regensburg, it was enough only for second place group.

GDR

With two 1-1 draws - against Yugoslavia in Halle and in France - launched the GDR in the group 4 After the subsequent 2:3 defeat in Bulgaria, the GDR was virtually out of the race to win the group. Although there were against France in Karl- Marx-Stadt and against Bulgaria in hall two more 1-1 draw and in Yugoslavia a 3-2 away win, but that was enough ultimately only the third group space.

Austria

Disappointing the cutter in the Austrian group was fifth in the six games the team was not a single victory. Thus, three defeats were only three draws - twice against Cyprus and once against the Netherlands - opposite, which Austria does not exceed came over the third group space.

Switzerland

The Switzerland even had to make do with last place in Group 6. In the six games, the Confederates were able to score only in the home games. The only victory there was in Grenchen 4-2 against the Soviet Union. Against Denmark ( in Bern ) and against Norway ( in Freiburg) were each 1-1.
