1990 IIHF Women's World Championship

The Women's Hockey World Cup was first held in 1990. The first tournament of the eight best women's hockey teams took place from 19 to 25 March in Ottawa, Canada. Qualified hosts were next to Canada and the U.S., the 5 best teams in the Hockey Championship 1989 ( Finland, Sweden, West Germany, Norway, Switzerland ) and the Asian champions in 1988, with runner-up Japan represented the waiving champion China. First IIHF World Women's Champion was Canada. Best scorer of the tournament was the U.S. American Cindy Curley with eleven goals and twelve assists.
