1991 FIFA World Player of the Year

The World Player of the Year in 1991 was elected on 8 December 1991 as part of the qualifying draw for the 1994 World Cup in New York City. It was the first award of the newly introduced from the football world governing body FIFA award " World Player of the Year." Winner of the award was the German Lothar Matthaus.

Tuning mode

The winner was determined by a vote among 66 national coaches in the world. Each of these named the three best footballers in their opinion, none of the three could come from their own country. One response to square one brought five points, second place three points, third place a point. Then the points were summed.
