1997 AFC Women's Championship

The 11th Asian Cup Women was held in the period from 5 to 14 December 1997, the PRC. Venues were Guangzhou, Panyu and Zhaoqing (all Guangdong Province ). The winner was the sixth time in a row China to a 2-0 victory over North Korea.

Mode

There were no qualifiers for this tournament. The eleven teams were divided into two groups of four and a group of three. Within the preliminary groups, each team plays once against each other. The group winners and the best runners-up spot to reach the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the finals, the semi-final losers play for third place.
