The earthquake of Gölcük occurred on 17 August 1999 at 03:02 local time clock (UTC 00:01:39 ) in Turkey. The cities most affected were Kocaeli, Yalova, Gölcük and Adapazarı. The earthquake reached a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale.
