D-2 -phosphoglycerate ( 2- phosphoglyceric acid and D- ) is an intermediate of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. By the phosphoglycerate conversion to D-3- phosphoglycerate occurs. The reverse reaction is catalysed by them. The enzyme enolase converts D-2 -phosphoglycerate and phosphoenolpyruvate in to water. This reaction is also reversible.
The enantiomer L-2- phosphoglycerate has no biological relevance.
