2007 cyberattacks on Estonia

The cyber attacks on Estonia began on 27 April 2007 and were directed against Estonian organizations, including Estonian parliament, banks, ministries and radio broadcasters. At the same time, there was a riot of Russian Estonians because of the conversion of the Bronze Soldier of Tallinn. Therefore, it is assumed that Russia is principal of the attacks, these allegations were, however, offset later. The attacks were mostly denial of service attacks with use of the botnet and put practically the whole country lame. Estonia is considered the internetaffinste country in Europe.

In 2008, an Estonian citizen who is an ethnic Russian, tried and sentenced. On 20 March 2009, has Konstantin Goloskokow, an official of the pro-government youth organization Nashi Russian, announced as the mastermind of the attacks. The truth of this statement is controversial.

Official Russia rejected all accusations. For lack of concrete evidence against Russia, there were no official sanctions the part of the EU or NATO.
